چکیده

By a classical principle of probability theory, sufficiently thin subsequences of general sequences of random variables behave like i.i.d. sequences. This observation not only explains the remarkable properties of lacunary trigonometric series, but also provides a powerful tool in many areas of analysis, such the theory of orthogonal series and Banach space theory. In contrast to i.i.d. sequences, however, the probabilistic structure of lacunary sequences is not permutation-invariant and the analytic properties of such sequences can change after rearrangement. In a previous paper we showed that permutation-invariance of subsequences of the trigonometric system and related function systems is connected with Diophantine properties of the index sequence. In this paper we will study permutation-invariance of subsequences of general r.v. sequences. AMS 2000 Subject classification. Primary 42A55, 42A61, 60F05, 60G09.

Limit Theorems for Combinatorial Structures via Discrete Process Approximations

Discrete functional limit theorems, which give independent process approximations for the joint distribution of the component structure of combinatorial objects such as permutations and mappings, have recently become available. In this article, we demonstrate the power of these theorems to provide elementary proofs of a variety of new and old limit theorems, including results previously proved ...

Central and Local Limit Theorems for Excedances by Conjugacy Class and by Derangement

We give central and local limit theorems for the number of excedances of a uniformly distributed random permutation belonging to certain sequences of conjugacy classes and belonging to the sequence of derangements.

Self-normalized limit theorems: A survey

Let X1,X2, . . . , be independent random variables with EXi = 0 and write Sn = ∑ n i=1 Xi and V 2 n = ∑ n i=1 X i . This paper provides an overview of current developments on the functional central limit theorems (invariance principles), absolute and relative errors in the central limit theorems, moderate and large deviation theorems and saddle-point approximations for the self-normalized sum S...

Central Limit Theorems and Invariance Principles for Time-One Maps of Hyperbolic Flows

We give a general method for deducing statistical limit laws in situations where rapid decay of correlations has been established. As an application of this method, we obtain new results for time-one maps of hyperbolic flows. In particular, using recent results of Dolgopyat, we prove that many classical limit theorems of probability theory, such as the central limit theorem, the law of the iter...

On exchangeable continuous variable systems

We investigate permutation-invariant continuous variable quantum states and their covariance matrices. We provide a complete characterization of the latter with respect to permutation invariance and exchangeability and representing convex combinations of tensor power states. On the level of the respective density operators this leads to necessary criteria for all these properties which become n...
